“Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in”. - Author Unknown

Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm now working up to 200 daily pushups, in four sets. The last few in the sets are getting easier. I took a day off, the day of the 12-mile ruck (below). I'm continuing an extra set of max reps with the pushup bars, on workdays. I've again trained in three more Qigong/Tai Chi classes this week, staying masked.

We have completed the 12-mile ruck (for me, 35-lb. weight) last weekend, double-dipping by rucking the 2022 Bridge To Brews 10K. We completed the virtual race, using the race route a day early and crossing the Hawthorne Bridge to downtown, crossing back on the Morrison Bridge to the 'floating bridge' back over the Steel Bridge, and then back over the Broadway Bridge. This finished the '5 races a year' goal and avoided the unmasked race crowds. To finish the ruck, we waypointed around the Irvington District, gathering answers for a long multicache, before heading back to Faye's Place - a little more than 12 miles on the day. We have also continued the additional tasking, a breathing/meditative practice. We still have this month's WOD, and last month's bonus WOD, to complete - and I also have the book to read.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I've halfway through Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior by Chögyam Trungpa, from my permanent library. I've finished rereading American Gods by Neil Gaiman, and started reading Moving To Higher Ground: How Jazz Can Change Your Life by Wynton Marsalis with Geoffrey C. Ward. I'm continuing my daily meditation for the month of April.

New words: Nope.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: The Daily Driver got a checkup, an oil change, and a gummed-up lifter fixed... and then, the starter died, and the Daily Driver was towed back to the mechanic at midnight. *sigh* Fortunately, my mechanic was able to fix it the next day.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: I have completed one more class of the Community Health Paramedicine course, MIH Community Needs Assessment and Patient Needs Assessment. I missed a class for the reasons below.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: We made an emergency trip to Base Station after the rain/snow storm dumped about 5 inches of heavy, wet snow. Lots of broken tree branches had blocked the driveway, The Old Man was without power and heat for more than two days, and the antenna beam was pretty severely damaged. By the time Faye and I were able to get there, the neighbors had managed to clean up most of the driveway. We were able to get the RV Propane system recharged and functioning, and Ol' Number 3's propane space heater going in the Gate House. This counted as an emergency drill, completing another goal. I will have a better alternative power system in place in the Spring, and hopefully, we'll be able to fix the antenna beam soon.

Adventure/Doing Stuff: I attended Kinkfest this weekend, keeping up my usual tradition of volunteering - this year for Guest Services. The usual Medical and DM shifts I usually work were not scheduled due to some confusion and some staff turnover, but I was happy to help however they needed me to. I got my boots professional-level blacked and attended the Cigar Social, enjoying a fine cigar, and attended some useful classes.
