“What matters, in other words, isn’t what we feel but how we respond to those feelings.” – Donald Robertson

Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I was really struggling with my workday maintenance routine, and my motivation and drive this week was really low during my fast. I have managed to restart, with daily three sets of 30 pushups, 30 air squats, and 30 crunches, and I'll build from there. I've broken my grippers - I'd like to say it was my brute strength, but they were cheap Chinese plastic. I've ordered another set, and the new ones are adjustable for more grip strength! I trained in one Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong class last week, and three Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong classes this week. I signed up for the Turkey Trot in November, the Bubble Run at the end of June, and the Muddy Dash in July.

We completed the June "Stirling" Hero WOD, which is 8 rounds of Max Reps Ruck Unbroken Push-Ups (35-lb. ruck) and 74 Ruck Lunges (35-lb. ruck), with the condition of, "If you don’t hit more than 5 push-ups then go slick (no weight)." We got through four rounds of this brutal WOD before we went slick. We slapped the June 'Dare' patch on our rucks since all the other requirements were completed. My totals for the WOD were 133 pushups and the required 592 lunges. My legs are still sore.

To complete the July 'Revolt' Challenge, we only need to complete the “Knowlton” Hero WOD, which is a 17 Minute AMRAP of 9 Ruck Upright Rows, 16 Ruck Swings, and 76 Paces Sandbag and Ruck Carry, with a Buy Out of a 1-Mile Heavy Ruck (as much weight as you can ruck for a mile). We've completed The Wright Brothers by David McCullough, the book of the month. I have also completed the additional tasking of, "find[ing] a cause that you feel strongly about and petition the Government to make a change by writing a letter, signing a petition, or protesting peacefully", signing an online petition for Women's Rights (Roe v. Wade Supreme Court Decision), and also signing a petition for the Supporting Our First Responders Act (HR 8994).

We have finished August's 'Peace' rucking requirement of "31 total miles, broken down anyway throughout the month". We did not complete this rucking goal within the month, as we lost 11 days while my Student was visiting, more days due to my fasting, and yet more due to the AQI in Portland, but we got it done in nine extra days. *sigh* We also finished August's book of the month, How to Think Like a Roman Emperor: The Stoic Philosophy of Marcus Aurelius by Donald J. Robertson. We still have March's bonus WOD, July's WOD, August's WOD and the additional tasking, and all of September and October's Challenge tasks.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: As I do every year, I fasted for seven days. This year, I subsisted on a total of 128 oz. of 100% fruit juice and plenty of water. My yearly fasting this week was more challenging than usual; the body shakes and muscle aches were more severe, and my digestive tract worked overtime, especially on the last days of fasting.

I finished reading Dying Out Here Is Not an Option: Paddlequest 1500: A 1500 Mile, 75 Day, Solo Canoe & Kayak Odyssey by John Connelly, an account by the author of his trip around the NE corner of the US. An enjoyable read about overcoming adversity and survival. I've also read Go Far: How Endurance Sports Help You Win At Life by Jennifer McConachie; she has an interesting perspective on how she meets and endures challenges. I've resumed studying The Chinese Martial Code: The Art of War by Sun Tzu, The Precepts of War by Sima Rangju, and Wu Zi on the Art of War by A. L. Sadler. I'm also still reading How to Be Compassionate: a Handbook for Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World by The Dalai Lama XIV and Jeffrey Hopkins, and The Not So Big Life: Making Room for What Really Matters by Sarah Susanka. For fun, I'm also reading American Pie: Slices of Life (and Pie) from America's Back Roads by Pascale Le Draoulec, for both the stories and the recipes. *smile*

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: The Whorse is still 10-7, but may have a new transmission after Thanksgiving. My ballot has been mailed. My taxes have been paid. My office has been vacuumed, and all of my Intakes and files are completed and filed. I have bought access to a bank of online CEU courses for a year, with a 10% discount; I'll complete both this year's CEU requirements, then wait until after the new year and complete next year's requirements.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: Ol' Number 3 got her closet rod installed and her closet cleaned - and I learned that my closet had too much stuff and too many clothes! On a second trip, I divested myself of more than 25 T-shirts, more than half a dozen shorts and work pants, and two duffel bags. My closet has a lot more room in it now. Also, more Burning Man gear got transferred back to Base Station, and we've started preparing for winter storms and loss of power with a solar power bank and an NOAA weather alert radio. Faye harvested a dozen apples and cleaned up some of the RV.

Adventure/Doing Stuff: No progress.
