“Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven’t planted.” – David Bly

Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm getting back into my workday routine of three sets of 30 pushups, three sets of grippers, 30 air squats, and 30 crunches. I trained in one Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong class this past Friday, and two Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong classes this Monday and Tuesday; there are no more classes this week for Thanksgiving. We rucked the Turkey Trot, counting it as one of the four required November rucks. We've signed up for the F*CK 2022! New Year's Run.

GoRuck Challenge tasks: We still have March's bonus WOD and some of August, September, October, and November's Challenge tasks, as broken down below:

We still have to complete the August 'Peace' GoRuck WOD, the “13”, with Part 1 being a 13-minute AMRAP (13 sandbag man makers, and 13 ruck lunges) and then immediately after ruck 1 mile, and then for Part 2 at the 30 min mark (you have a time hack), another 13-min AMRAP (13 Sandbag get-ups and 13 ruck push-ups) and then immediately after ruck another mile. We've already completed the book, the rucking requirement, and the additional tasking.

For the September 'War' Goruck Challenge, we're still planning the rucking requirement of 110 flights of stairs or 2,071 steps, honoring the first responders that died at Ground Zero that day trying to climb the 110 flights of stairs, but we've deferred it until Faye's medical issues can be addressed. We also still have to do the WOD. We've finished the book of the month, and I've finished the additional tasking, which is to "listen to a veteran on the subject of war ... you can do this in real life or by watching a talk online." I completed this by watching Ralph Gastelum, a Korean War veteran, describe the US Marines "advancing to the mountains of the Chosin Reservoir, where they would find themselves surrounded by an overwhelming force of ten divisions of Chinese communist forces and fighting in 40 degree below zero temperatures", on a YouTube video titled, "The Chosin Reservoir was Absolute Hell on Earth." Very thought-provoking.

For October's 'Live' GoRuck Challenge, the rucking requirement was to, "[p]ick 4 days out of this month to [r]uck one mile with (heavy weight) “Mog Mile” style — in honor of those who did the October 4, 1993 Mog Mile, and those who could not." This means, "Start with your baseline weight and increase 5-20lbs. for each of the 4 rucks, up to 100lbs. if you are an advanced rucker." I've completed this requirement, with the ruck weight as follows: first (45 lbs.), second (55 lbs.), third (65 lbs.), and fourth (75 lbs.). I used almost every plate we had as well as my plate carrier. We've also finished the book of the month, but we still have to do the WOD and the additional tasking.

For November's 'Freedom' GoRuck Challenge, we've finished the book of the month. However, we still have the CHAD1000X WOD ("1000X Step Ups completed as a team, partner, or individual for time"), and the rucking requirement, which is, "ruck 4 times this month ... [y]ou pick the weight and distance", and the additional tasking, which is, "[i]n the spirit of reaching out and connecting with another human being, invite a buddy to ruck alongside you." We've completed one of the four rucks required, a 5K at baseline weight (35 lbs.) with the holiday lights at PIR during the Turkey Trot.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading How to Be Compassionate: a Handbook for Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World by The Dalai Lama XIV and Jeffrey Hopkins, and The Not So Big Life: Making Room for What Really Matters by Sarah Susanka. I've also picked up Mind Over Water: Lessons on Life from the Art of Rowing by Craig Lambert, and Waiting to Die: A Near-Death Researcher's (Mostly Humorous) Reflections on His Own Endgame by Kenneth Ring, and Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress.

Adventure/Doing Stuff: We spent Thanksgiving with the extended family, who came north from California for the week. Besides the Thanksgiving feast, we also went to the Oregon Garden in Silverton for more holiday lights at the Christmas Market.
