101/1001 Update
Jan. 19th, 2023 05:23 pmEvery human mind is a great slumbering power until awakened by a keen desire and by definite resolution to do. — Edgar F. Roberts
Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm still getting back into my workday routine of 30 pushups (3 sets), three sets of grippers, 30 air squats, and 30 crunches; I still made no progress this week. I'm still considering Man Makers. I'm having some difficulty with motivation/focus, and my available work day. I have trained in two Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong classes last week, and one this week. I'm close to finishing a weightlifting plan for the dojo equipment, probably focusing on chin-ups.
We've continued the rucking requirement for January's GoRuck'Change' Challenge tasks, with the baseline weight plus a 10-lb. plate for the second week into my ruck. For the third week, I'm wearing my plate carrier (two 10-lb. plates) and my baseline weight ruck. We have also completed the additional FXCK (Functions Check) of, "[g]rab your Sandbag or Sand Kettlebell - 50lbs for men and 30lbs for women - and carry it as quickly as you can for one mile."
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading How to Be Compassionate: a Handbook for Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World by The Dalai Lama XIV and Jeffrey Hopkins, Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel. I've finished with The Not So Big Life: Making Room for What Really Matters by Sarah Susanka. I've started Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk, and I'm again studying Sun Tzu's Art of War - but this time reading the most often used 'canon' translation by Lionel Giles (originally The Art of War by Sun Tzu: The Oldest Military Treatise in the World, 1910).
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: The transmission for The Whorse is still en route, being shipped to the mechanic. I've got all of the financial information for 2022 complete - I'm waiting for the end-of-the-month stuff from the money market accounts before I get it to the accountant. I'm already working on getting all of my 2023 CEU requirements out of the way, and I've already finished a 2-CEU course on Suicide Assessment and Prevention, a 2.5 CEU course on Bioterrorism: An Update for Healthcare Professionals, a 1-CEU Cannabinoid Overview course, and a 2.5 CEU course called The Bisexual Client: Trauma-Focused Care.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. We were able to unload my 312-lb.(!) tool cabinet out of my car and lift it into the Pump House, where I will be able to finally get all of my Base Station tools in one place and clear a lot of space in the Pump House. The Gate House generator and the Manual Transfer Switch Kit have arrived. I'll be looking at a generator and a trash pump for the Pump House soon.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: One of the Old Man's Christmas gifts was a monthly 'adventure' - so we went to the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria this month. We enjoyed the Coast Guard Rescue Missions, the Shipwreck exhibit, and the Bridge of the USS Knapp, a WWII Destroyer. An excellent way to spend a rainy day!
