Our whole life is set up in the path of least resistance. We don't want to suffer. We don't want to feel discomfort. So the whole time, we're living our lives in a very comfortable area. There's no growth in that. - David Goggins

Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm starting back slowly with a mostly daily routine, and I'm back to two sets of 30 pushups. I'm also doing three sets of grippers on days I'm in my office to work on increasing my grip strength. I have trained in three Yang Style Tai Chi/Qigong classes this week. I have a weightlifting plan for the dojo equipment, focusing on chin-ups, but I have still not started it yet. There does not appear to be a Spartan Race in Oregon this year. We will be going to Snohomish, WA for the race, although I have not signed up for it yet.

On the February GoRuck 'Discomfort' Challenge tasks, I completed the third sandbag carry for the third week, the Bear Hug Carry, with a 60-lb. sandbag for one mile. That was a serious challenge to move that weight on the frontal plane, and many rest breaks were required, especially uphill. We also completed the Function Check, "50 Burpees with lateral hop over [the] sandbag." On the same evening as the F*CK, we also completed early the fourth sandbag carry, the Overhead Carry (although I carried my 35-lb. ruck instead of my sandbag for the mile). Again, many rest breaks were required, and we had to alternate the Overhead carry with resting our rucks on our heads, and I was close to muscle failure at the end. However, we did complete all of the rucking and additional challenge tasks for the month. We only have the workout - 13 rounds of 7 Ruck Push-Ups (baseline weight), 19 Ruck Squats (baseline weight), and 41 Mountain Climbers (2-count, slick), with a cash out of 13 Man Makers - left to complete.

Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading How to Be Compassionate: a Handbook for Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World by The Dalai Lama XIV and Jeffrey Hopkins, Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk. I've finished my studying of Sun Tzu's Art of War, the most often used 'canon' translation by Lionel Giles (originally The Art of War by Sun Tzu: The Oldest Military Treatise in the World, 1910), and I've also read The Last Season by Eric Blehm, a true account of the story of NPS Backcountry Ranger Randy Morgenson, who "one morning after 28 seasons on the job, failed to answer his radio call." I've added Kodo: Ancient Ways: Lessons in the Spiritual Life of the Warrior/Martial Artist by Kensho Furuya.

Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I had a dental appointment and got my teeth professionally whitened.

In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No Progress.

Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. I still need to replace the trailer light connector on the Daily Driver, although I have gotten the parts and the tools to do so, and they are on top of my new tool cabinet. I took advantage of a $30 off sale on the End Cabinet that goes with the tool cabinet, and ordered it, which will add even more tool storage. I also bought the 2 in. x 20 ft. PVC Suction/Intake Hose for the Semi-Trash Pump for the Pump House, with a 25% off coupon, for when I can afford the pump and I have the space to hook it up. Once I have the pump, I will be able to easily empty the tank in the Pump House, should I ever need to, and I will also have 3000 gallons of water (the same as a Fire Engine) for fire defense and suppression.

Adventure/Doing Stuff: We spent an evening at the Portland Winter Lights Festival, but there wasn't much exciting art and activities. We walked around Pioneer Courthouse Square and the World Trade Center and saw what they had to offer, but I've seen more and better art at regional Burning Man festivals. We also spent a day having a monthly adventure with the Old Man. We visited the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, seeing the Spruce Goose, an SR-71, and a lot of other very interesting military and civilian aircraft/spacecraft.
