101/1001 Update
Mar. 14th, 2023 10:33 pmI learned very early in my life never to take counsel in my fears. - George S. Patton
Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm continuing a mostly daily routine, with two sets of 30 pushups, and three sets of grippers on days I'm in my office (to work on increasing my grip strength). I notice that 30 pushups are getting easier, and some days I'm adding a third set of pushups. I have trained in three classes last week, one class so far this week, and I am making progress with the beginning of the Yang 13 Palms Staff form. I have bought a registration for the Spartan Race that is valid for any 2023 Sprint Event, regardless of location.
We completed the February GoRuck 'Discomfort' Challenge workout - 13 rounds of 7 Ruck Push-Ups (baseline weight), 19 Ruck Squats (baseline weight), and 41 Mountain Climbers (2-count, slick), with a cash out of 13 Man Makers, finishing the month. We're starting to focus on March's GoRuck 'Luck' Challenge tasks including the book of the month, The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A Memoir of Friendship, Loyalty, and War by John "Chick" Donohue and J.T. Molloy. We have started the book.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading How to Be Compassionate: a Handbook for Creating Inner Peace and a Happier World by The Dalai Lama XIV and Jeffrey Hopkins, Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk, and Kodo: Ancient Ways: Lessons in the Spiritual Life of the Warrior/Martial Artist by Kensho Furuya. I completed an extra 1.5 CEU online class on Burnout, Vicarious Trauma, and Resilience. There has not been much time for reading. The 16 Precepts Classes have started last week, with weekly writing assignments, and I have declared an interest in Jukai. I have completed my first writing assignment.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I have attended another online kink class, Consent Dojo # 22: BDSM, Judaism, & Sex Therapy w/ Dr. Stefani Goerlich + Midori. An interesting class that definitely helped my cultural competency. My CPA has my taxes done and they'll be filed toromorrow.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No Progress. I finally got back to the station, and I was assigned to M481, the second-out medical unit. I spent the day completing my (very late) annual training on Confined Space Awareness, Marine Fire and Safety Awareness, Air and Bloodborne Pathogens, and HIPAA training, as well as the mandatory Cultural Diversity course required for all Prehospital Providers in Oregon. A long mentally draining day, but necessary to be able to be a firefighter and to work with patients in the prehospital setting. I also incorporated my ruck into my firefighter fitness training.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress. I'm likely relocating to Base Station; I'm a lot happier there. The blackwater tanks were emptied. I have gotten the parts and the tools needed to replace the trailer light connector on the Daily Driver, and the trailer connector wires are ready to be spliced, repaired, and tested. The second part of the tool cabinet arrived and was installed, and I managed to empty an entire shelf into the tool cabinet, with temporary post-it labels labeling the tool drawers. The smaller but more sturdy package mailbox is now ready to be installed, replacing the damaged plastic one. An appointment for the septic plan is in progress, as is a geoengineering consult/site plan for gravel and concrete for the large vehicle bay and the pole barn.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: No Progress. We attended the HUMP! Film Festival two weekends ago, to a fairly small audience, and we saw Cirque du Soleil: Corteo this last weekend.
