101/1001 Update
Oct. 28th, 2023 11:14 pm“We generate fears while we sit. We overcome them by action.” - Dr. Henry Link
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: I'm using the Albuterol inhaler less, although I'm still only about 60-70% of where I was. I did not train in any Qi Gong/Yang Tai Chi classes last week, and only two classes this week. I did sign up for the Turkey Trot 5K in November.
October's Goruck 'Failure" Challenges are still ongoing. I completed the workout, which was 4 Rounds of 19 Kettlebell Ground-To-Overheads, 19 Kettlebell Front Squats, 19 Kettlebell Pushups (Each Arm), and 400-meter Carries, all while wearing your ruck. What I didn't realize was that you had to keep your hand/arm/body part attached to your kettlebell at all times, or forfeit your progress with the round - extra mindfulness training! I used my 20-lb. sandbag kettlebell for the first time, and my baseline 35-lb. ruck, and did it in the rain. The rucking and additional challenge tasks are to, "[ru]ck with the weight you plan to wear for CHAD1000X in November. In preparation for Chad1000X, ruck uphill or up stairs (~2000 stairs = 1 mile) for a total of 5 miles per week. You can complete all 5 miles at once or break it up a mile a day for 5 days out of the week. Aim for a 20-mile total by the end of the month." I have also rucked my third 5-mile rucking requirement in two chunks - a two-mile and a three-mile ruck, and I'm working on the fourth week. I have three more miles to go this month. The F*CK retest, a Plank Hold to Failure, "Take note of your time, repeat at the end of the month and beat your time", with my first Plank Hold at 1:30, is pending until the end of the month.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I'm still reading Hope Dies Last: Keeping the Faith in Difficult Times by Studs Terkel, and Your Brain on Food: How Chemicals Control Your Thoughts and Feelings by Gary L. Wenk. I'm still working on Scarcity Brain: Fix Your Craving Mindset and Rewire Your Habits to Thrive with Enough by Michael Easter, the October GoRuck book of the month. I'm also reading Painfully Obvious: An Irreverent & Unauthorized Manual for Leather/SM by Robert Davolt, one of the books I picked up at the Kinky Library Event this month. I did finish a Star Wars novel.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: I renewed my Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor credentials. I completed an online 1.5 CEU class this week, Dissociative Disorders & The Normalcy of Fragmentation.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress. I've signed up for a 2-day Trauma Symposium and the 3-day Oregon EMS Conference in early November.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: The trash pump tank port for the fire suppression system has been installed, and we'll have an operational test soon. The Base Station pole barn/garage/shop geoengineering plans are almost finalized. The loggers were also scheduled for mid-December, and a lot of stuff and the vehicles (including Ol' Number 3) need to be moved, my next project. We are about ready to start trenching the septic system for the Gate House.
Adventure/Doing Stuff: I took myself to a McMenamins soaking pool after my GoRuck workout, and soaked in the warm water in the rain. I went to the Portland Opera this weekend, and enjoyed the opening night of The Marriage of Figaro at the Keller Auditorium.
