101/1001 Update
Oct. 17th, 2024 08:30 pm"In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity." – Albert Einstein
Body/Martial Arts/Physical Improvement/Testing Myself: Once again, I've attended one Shaolin Kung Fu class and no Qi Gong/Yang Tai Chi classes these last two weeks. I've made no progress with the Yang Staff Form.
October's Goruck Tribe 'Mercy' challenges are ongoing. The workout is the “Mogadishu Mile", which is 4 Rounds of 19 Kettlebell Ground-to-Overheads (35lb), 19 Kettlebell Front Squats (35lb), 19 Kettlebell Uneven Push-Ups (each hand, 38 total), and 400-meter Kettlebell Runs, wearing my ruck for the entire workout. The rucking and additional tasking is 5 miles per week, focusing on Elevation/Stairs, "Ruck with weight you plan to wear for CHAD1000x in November". The Book of the Month is Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson. The F*CK is a retest of my grip strength, from August 2023. I've read the Book of the Month and I'm almost 15 miles into the rucking/additional tasking requirement.
Mind/Spirit/Centering/Health: I've keep making more progress with the books in this entry. Still in progress: The Disaster-Ready Home: A Step-by-Step Emergency Preparedness Manual for Sheltering in Place by Creek Stewart, and Hidden in Plain Sight: Esoteric Power Training Within Japanese Martial Traditions: Tracing the Roots of Ueshiba Morihei's Power, by Ellis Amdur(editor). I've also read Iron & Silk by Mark Salzman, and After Disasters by Viet Dinh.
In Case of Zombies/Disaster Preparation: No progress.
Maintenance/Shit Got To Be Done: No progress. I served two days on Jury Duty, although I was not called to be an actual Juror.
Base Station/Ol' Number 3: No progress.
Travel/Adventure/Doing Stuff: My vacation didn't go as planned. I'd hoped for hiking and camping in North Cascades National Park, but park and road closures, and catching a serious cold, meant I had more of a rest-and-recover week. I did, however, collect another Junior Ranger badge at the Japanese American Exclusion Memorial on Bainbridge Island - completing another goal.
