grim23After providing the medical services for the Spiral Rhythms Festival this last weekend, I have some updates. Thank you, as usual, to the BF, for grounding me afterwards. (I love spending time on Wednesdays and Sundays with you---you are my most consistent and relaxing rendezvous.)
It’s nice to be just a Healer sometimes. It was an extreme honor to bear witness and provide aftercare after the Pre-ritual Rite, and to watch Dale The Nail perform such complete technical mastery, and to watch the men pull the rope while he danced and hung. Other than that, two ticks, one ankle, one foot, one burn, and lots of bandages and antiseptic.
My chakras are starting to crack open. While I was there, and practicing kata, I met a woman who, ten years ago, was 5th kyu Ryo Bu Kai, training in Beaverton with the other Sensei James. With the music by main stage, we did Pinan Yandan and Rohai Shodan together. Then, and working this weekend in a healing context, cleared my charkas temporarily. Now I know what it feels like, I can work on that more. A warrior woman and tattoo artist will be touching up my Warrior Kanji and adding openness to all eight ways. That should help, as will my places in Sunfest.
Medically, I am no longer wearing my brace, unless I’m on uneven or slippery ground. My PT has me on the stairstep machine and the weights, and I’m much stronger as a result of all the walking around this weekend. However, this is a dangerous time, as my ACL is actually at its weakest. I’m still stiff and it aches, but it’s better.
I am a bit sad, as last night was my last Order of the Eastern Star ritual, and I will not be able to support my Associate Matron in her year in the East. It is yet another reminder of what I am putting aside for now, and all that I must leave.
