The latest update
Aug. 20th, 2006 12:49 pmWell. I'm on Day 4 of my fast, still sleeping a lot when I can, but good energy and spirit when I am awake. It seems to be a healing sleep. A few people have commented on my astral travel. I think I have lost a bit of weight; I feel faster and lighter. I still smell funny and feel like I have a film over my body, and my breath is still pretty awful.
My motorcycle part are in, and I will have them tomorrow evening, and installed Tuesday.
I have connected with the people I'm camping with at Burning Man, and all of my needs will be met until my stuff arrives, including transportation to the playa and sleeping arrangements.
Yesterday I watched and helped during the red and black-belt recertifications. They have to run a mile (which includes a very steep hill) in ten minutes, and do a certain number of sit-ups and push-ups, perform hyung and hapkido and one-step combinations, perform bo staff hyung, take a written test on the principles and terminology of Tang Soo Do, and break pine boards, sometimes of 2 or 3 thicknesses or 2 or three in a row, with different techniques. The re-certification process takes about four hours. I learned quite a lot, including how to hold boards to be broken.
Afterwards, I had a large OJ with Master Tim and my new training partner, whose name (pause for irony) is James. James was just invited to take the black-belt Shodan test next month. We talked about clearing our heads after such intense testings, and how to train as a way of life. I listened to how they spoke and listened.
My affirmation: I speak less now overall, following the principles of true, kind, and necessary, and I'm speaking and acting in a measured and meaningful way.
