"Almost all humans...have strange imaginings. The strangest of these is a belief that they can progress only by improvement. Those who understand will realize that we are much more in need of stripping off than adding on."

Food for thought, from Doris Lessing, courtesy of Karlyn. A nice compliment to my earlier post.

Thank you, Karlyn.

You are welcome. I read your previous post this morning and thought, my goodness, he sure is busy doing. Then, I was in a pub in Cong at lunch (town where The Quiet Man was filmed) and reading a book called "I will not die an unlived life: reclaiming purpose and passion" by Dawna Markova, when she quoted Ms. Lessing in a chapter about loss and letting go. I thought of you and marked the passage.

Be mindful of two things. One is don't get so busy "doing" that you are not taking enough time to "be". Sometimes we just have to "be" with the the energy, "be" with an emotion, "be" with an event or trauma.

The second thing is, really check within to make sure that all this work and activity you are so ardently pursuing is not a symptom of you holding expectations. As in, you are holding on too tightly to outcomes. And check within to make sure that all this activity is not simply a way to avoid other things, like thinking, or feeling, or whatever one might want to avoid by filling one's day with as much activity as possible.

:-)

I have to second the comment made above.

And also to point out, in regards to the Lessing quote above, that beyond beleiving we can only progress by improvement, many people believe that mere improvement is proof of progression!

Namaste,
Sienna
