Smith got this idea about improving the existing express delivery system while he was an undergraduate student at Yale University... Fred Smith recognized this and presented a paper describing the existing system and recommended improvements to it. Smith received a ‘C’ grade for his efforts.
Obviously, Smith was not discouraged by the letter grade as is evident from the current standing of Fedex.
