Updating the Update
Jun. 22nd, 2005 10:41 pmWell, I passed, and I am now 7th kyu, a purple belt. I earned it, though.
I damaged my right knee on the last back stance of the first set, and rode the pain though all of the line drills and katas. The Sensei stopped the test twice to ask if I wanted to stop, but I wanted to continue. I put too much muscle into everything, and tired myself out. I couldn't hit a back stance right even once. My kicks sucked, and my combinations were probably painful to watch, but my kata and kumite were ok. I had to spar with Sensei James, who was nice to me and only hit me in the head once. :>
Paula and the BF watched, and Paula wrapped and iced my knee afterwards, and then I had a nice dinner with the BF, as Paula had to go to work. I will be spending the night convalescing at the BF's, and then go to work looking like I've been in a car accident. I think I'll be taking some time off training so as to heal a bit.
Was it worth it? Oh, Hell, yeah.
Oss!

Date: 2005-06-23 08:40 am (UTC)Want me to tell you when some friends and I are going to spend an afternoon at the range?
Also - the several times I've been told to "put 300 rounds through a gun before I buy it" - does one mean that particular individual sidearm that I plan to take home or an instance of the model I'm considering but not necessarily the particular individual sidearm I'd like to take home?

Date: 2005-06-23 09:39 am (UTC)My personal perspective is to put 300 rounds through at least the model/type you want to determine if that is the right weapon for you. It lets you get used to the recoil and where the brass goes and whether or not you can hold it and if you get blisters on your thumb and if you can be accurate with it.
Of course, if you find THE weapon you like, put mucho rounds through it and get so familiar with it that you don't have to think and you can accurately line it up for groups under stress.
Congrats! Knew you could do it!

Date: 2005-06-23 03:53 pm (UTC)My test was grueling because I put out too much Chi and too much tension, and couldn't relax, so I hurt myself. I remember a conversation with you about how I did this, and you warned me I'd need to rein in my Chi. You were right.
Thank you for the lesson, even if I didn't heed it in this way at that time.
I return my deepest respect. *seiza, low formal bow* Oss!

Good Job
